A “barranquero” is the name given to the bird with a light blue band on its head that inhabits high places such as treetops.

It is generally a large bird (about 48 centimeters long and weighing 1.2 kilograms).

On the one hand, its head is large and features a light blue band encircling its black crown, which turns purple at the nape of the neck; on the other hand, its body is usually plump, and the body joins the head with almost no neck, giving it a chubby appearance.

It also has a long, black tail on the underside. Furthermore, its tail feathers taper gradually, while the central ones end in a racket-like shape that it often swings back and forth. At the tip of the tail, there are two protruding tufts.

The Barranquero peak is quite thick and sturdy, forming a slight curve with jagged edges.
