El Páramo del Sol is the highest point in the entire department of Antioquia, at 4,080 meters above sea level. It is an incredibly beautiful and sacred place that you can see from the Antioquia Tower at the lookout point by turning your gaze—or your camera, telescope, or binoculars—toward the west.
It is said that one of its main attractions, when you visit, is that the clouds are right beneath your feet, which means you are much closer to the sun.
El Páramo del Sol is located in the municipality of Urrao, next to the Colibrí del Sol Bird Sanctuary, where you can see hundreds of Colibrí del Sol hummingbirds.
In turn, this moorland is characterized by a wide variety of climates, animal species, and vegetation, such as the famous frailejones, delicate plants that produce water.
Did you know that Colombia is home to 50% of the world’s frailejones and that, thanks to the conditions in the Páramo del Sol, it is home to spectacled bear.
