It is known for promoting the cultural preservation of ancestral practices in the Aburr\u00e1 and San Nicol\u00e1s valleys, particularly through its tradition of cultivating ornamental plants and aromatic species for use in the silletera craft.<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">This process began when the silleteros stopped carrying people on their backs and started transporting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colombia.co\/pais-colombia\/geografia-y-medio-ambiente\/tipos-de-flores-que-existen-en-colombia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #0d5257\"><strong>flowers<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and aromatic plants to sell in the city of Medell\u00edn.<\/p><p>Just as flowers remain in the memories of the elderly, so too have the recipes of our grandmothers and their aromatic plants been preserved\u2014recipes that not only enriched the cuisine of Medell\u00edn but also provided relief for a wide range of health ailments.\u00a0<\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">Currently, despite the significant impact on the village surrounding the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #0d5257\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0d5257;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.colombia.co\/visita-colombia\/feria-de-las-flores-de-medellin -todo-un-desfile-de-tradicion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flower Fair<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, where the Silleteros parade is the central event of these popular festivities in the capital of Antioquia, the agricultural practices that sustain the cultivation of the flowers used to build the silletas have declined.<\/p><p>This implies, first, that the silleteros are forced to rely on industrial crops to supply the parade; and second, the concerning decline in the diversity of species used in the silletas.
